About

Anne Hsuyin is an award-winning composer, sound artist, and vocalist from Malaysia. Her diverse body of work spans concert music, collaborative media, and hyperpop, drawing on a unique blend of internet culture, her diasporic identity, and themes of vulnerability to create her distinctive sound palette.

Described as a '“virtuoso of the Digital Audio Workstation” (Fever Pitch Magazine), Anne has contemplated the construction – and deconstruction – of sound, society, and emotion in her multimedia works The Insects Inside My Head (commissioned by Arts Centre Melbourne), and ˈwɔː kɪŋ (awarded a recommendation to the Royal Academy of Dance Australia).

In 2021, she was commissioned by the City of Melbourne to create Battle Theme! On and on and on…, a 27-channel public sound installation. She has also written music for Science Gallery Melbourne’s inaugural exhibition MENTAL, later presented at the ArtScience Museum, Singapore.

Anne was awarded the University of Melbourne’s Ormond Exhibitions Scholarship in 2018, the Florence Bradford Scholarship in 2020 and 2021, and the Guitar Perspectives Compositional Award in 2022. She has been regularly invited to the University of Melbourne as a guest speaker to discuss her creative practice and her work in the arts industry.

Under the alias SHIEI, Anne has written and arranged music for the Chinese web series Magic Town and has contributed her vocals to several indie game scores. She is also currently active as a recording artist and songwriter under the stage name 2yu, with listeners in over 26 countries.

Anne holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Composition with First Class Honours from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She is incredibly grateful to have received guidance and support from Ken Murray, Stuart Greenbaum, Katy Abbott, Elliott Gyger, Tim Dargaville, Miriama Young, Ade Vincent, James Cecil, Kate Neal, Marco Cher-Gibard, Madeleine Flynn and Tim Humphrey.
